How are we going to realise that vision?

Connect in Care will achieve this by:

1. Setting up practice development project sites in regions across Scotland

Four such sites were established in the first year (from September 2007 until July 2008) in Tayside, Lanarkshire, Lothian and Highland. In the autumn of 2007, a launch event was held in each area to bring together those who will be directly involved in or associated with the project. The progress of these projects, the learning that emerges and any resources developed will be shared with the network through this website. Four further sites will be established in year two (from September 2008 until July 2009).

2. Developing learning resources

Connect in Care will try out different ways of facilitating learning inside care communities. This will take the form of:

a) resources that can be used by staff with their colleagues/teams

b) events facilitated by Connect in Care.

We will use active learning methods: Blind Lead, The Chair Exercise, the play “In a Fankle” - which we use in the launch events for Connect in Care - are examples of active learning.

3. Providing a forum for students

Students on practice placements are in a unique position. They can evaluate their placement according to their primary interest in it as a learning environment. They also have access to the most recent ideas and research on practice. If we are to understand more about how care settings can support and value learning then we need to discover the experience and views of students.
